Physiotherapy for Post-Work Injuries

Helping You Recover and Get Back to Work

Sustaining a work-related injury can be life-disrupting, but with the right rehabilitation, you can return to work faster and stronger. Our clinic specializes in post-work injury rehabilitation, offering tailored physiotherapy programs designed to help you recover fully and prevent future injuries.

Common Work-Related Injuries We Treat

  • Low Back Pain (Lumbar Strain/Sprain): Caused by lifting heavy objects, poor posture, or repetitive movements, leading to muscle strains and ligament sprains.

  • Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI): Includes conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis, often resulting from repetitive motions, such as typing, tool handling, or assembly line work.
  • Shoulder Injuries: Includes rotator cuff tears and impingements, commonly seen in jobs requiring overhead lifting or repetitive arm movements.
  • Neck Pain: Often due to prolonged static postures (e.g., desk work) or improper ergonomics.
  • Knee Injuries: Includes conditions like meniscal tears or patellar tendinitis, often resulting from repetitive kneeling, squatting, or sudden twisting movements.
  • Ankle Sprains: Common in jobs that require walking on uneven surfaces, or in environments with a risk of tripping or slipping.
  • Fractures and Broken Bones: Resulting from falls, impacts, or accidents in construction, manufacturing, or warehouse settings.
  • Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis): A common repetitive strain injury among workers who perform gripping tasks, like in trades or manual labor.
  • Herniated Discs: Often seen in workers who perform heavy lifting, leading to back pain, radiating leg pain, or nerve compression symptoms.
  • Whiplash: Often the result of vehicle accidents in jobs involving driving, leading to neck stiffness and headaches.
  • Faster Recovery: Early intervention helps address the injury quickly, reducing downtime and speeding up recovery.
  • Pain Reduction: Timely treatment helps in managing pain through various techniques like manual therapy, electrotherapy, and exercises.
  • Prevention of Chronic Issues: Addressing the injury early can prevent the development of chronic pain or long-term complications.
  • Restoration of Function: Physiotherapy focuses on restoring mobility, strength, and functional abilities to help patients return to work and daily activities.
  • Improved Return-to-Work Outcomes: Early physiotherapy can result in a faster and safer return to work by addressing both physical and functional impairments.
  • Reduction of Compensatory Patterns: Immediate treatment helps correct movement patterns that could otherwise lead to secondary issues or further injury.
  • Enhanced Psychological Well-being: Early intervention reduces the anxiety and stress associated with work-related injuries, fostering a more positive recovery experience.
  • Prevention of Re-injury: Through education and strengthening, physiotherapy helps prevent the recurrence of similar injuries in the future.
  • Custom Rehabilitation Plans: Timely physiotherapy allows for personalized treatment plans that adapt as the patient progresses.
  • Coordination with Workplace Modifications: Early intervention facilitates communication between physiotherapists and employers, allowing for necessary workplace adjustments or ergonomic interventions.

What should I do immediately after a work injury?

After a work injury, it’s important to follow the correct process:

  1. Report your injury to the Health and Safety department at your workplace.
  2. Book an appointment with your primary physician to have your injury assessed. Your doctor will help you initiate a claim with the Workers Compensation Board (WCB).
  3. Once you receive your claim number, you can immediately book an initial physiotherapy assessment with us. You don’t have to wait for further approval. The earlier you start treatment, the better your recovery outcome.

What is the cost of work injury sessions?
The cost for work injury rehabilitation sessions are fully covered once your WCB adjuster approves your treatment plan. The initial assessment is typically pre-approved by your adjuster.
After the assessment is completed and the physiotherapist submits the report, the adjuster will review it to approve a block of treatment sessions.
Using our online system, we can verify if your claim is approved. Once confirmed, your future sessions will be scheduled at no cost to you.
What happens during my initial physiotherapy assessment?
During your initial assessment, the physiotherapist will evaluate your condition and create a tailored treatment plan. This may include:

  • Hands-on therapy (manual therapy)
  • Electrotherapy
  • Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS)
  • Stretching exercises
  • A progressive strengthening program

After the assessment, the physiotherapist will submit a detailed report to WCB, recommending the appropriate number of sessions per week and the duration of your treatment plan.
How long will recovery take?
Recovery time varies depending on the type and severity of your injury. The physiotherapist will assess your condition and, based on their findings, estimate the time needed for full recovery. Typically, this involves a combination of pain management, mobility exercises, and strength training.
How does the WCB process work for physiotherapy?
Once you’ve reported your injury and received a claim number, you can begin treatment right away. We’ll bill WCB directly for your sessions, and our team will coordinate with WCB on your progress and any additional sessions required.
What types of treatments are involved in post-work injury physiotherapy?
Your treatment plan will be customized based on your needs but may include manual therapy, electrotherapy, exercises for flexibility and strength, and guidance on safe return-to-work strategies.

Let’s get you fixed up.

Your current discomfort may stem from other problematic areas of your body. Instead of learning to tolerate the pain, why don’t we work towards eliminating it?

Went in to see Parm for some wrist and neck problems. We are mid-way through treatment and the pain is non-existent. On top of that, after few adjustments, I am noticing that my senses are heightened and I am thinking clearer, which I was not expecting. Parm's very professional and knowledgable. I highly recommend him.

I have had chronic pain for years and I have been to many different clinics and Pain Free Health is definitely one of the best clinics I’ve been to. The ladies working at the front fest are very friendly and helpful and Ravi (chiro) and Gina (massage) are both awesome. I have had horrible experiences at some other places but everyone at Pain Free seems to truly care about their patients.
